EDCA U18 Boys 2010

This year's selectors/coaches are:

·         Ian Trott                     Selector and U18 "A" Coach

·         Richard James          Selector and U18 "Development" Coach

·         Barry Rowlands        Selector

Grade convenors from each club will be asked to nominate boys who are U.18 as of 1 Sept. 2010. Note ACA require a minimum of 8 Year 11 boys in the final squad of 24.

These nominations need to be submitted to EDCA by 10 October

EDCA is looking for around 32 nominations for this age group (approx. Parnell 13, University 12, Grafton 7). While not totally strict, nomination numbers have been pro-rated according to the number of registered members each club has at this age level. Clubs are charged a pro-rata amount based on their number of trial nominations for the overall cost of providing coaches etc for the tournaments.  Last year, for example, clubs were levied a total of $6,150 - which was split amongst the three clubs according to how many trial nominations they each submitted across the age groups.

The following letter will be sent to the nominated trialists:

EDCA SELECTION PROCESS

UNDER 18

The Eastern District Cricket Association selects two teams for the Colts Auckland Regional Tournament, held on 5th (A team), and from 12th to 17th December. The players chosen will play against teams from the Western, Central, Manukau and North Harbour Districts.

The selection process consists of an open wicket trial for 32 players nominated by their clubs, followed by 2 trial games involving approximately 26 players, from which two teams of 12 players are selected. There are also 2 non travelling reserves named who are expected to take a full part in team preparations as decided by the team coaches.

At this level of representation players are selected primarily on specialist skills, the mix of which is determined by the selectors for each team. While players may be regarded as all-rounders for their club or school team, they may be selected as a top or middle order batsman, bowler or wicketkeeper for the tournament. It would be reasonable for a player selected as a bowler, for instance, to expect 5 overs each game, with the likelihood of bowling more should form and circumstance warrant it.

This year the selection process is scheduled as follows:

  1. These players are invited to an open wicket game to take place on 17 October at Parnell Cricket nets, from 1.00pm to 4.00pm. (GUCC indoor nets if wet)
  2. A squad of 26 will be selected to play an internal trial game on Sunday 31 October, at King's College; 9:15am for 10am start.  Finish around 5pm. 50 over format.
  3. A further trial on Sunday 14 November at Eastdale Reserve between 10am and 2pm.
  4. The two teams are scheduled to be named by 15 November.
  5. The selectors will monitor form in club and school play through until the teams are named and also take account of each player’s attitude, enthusiasm and commitment. Last season’s performances will also be taken into account.
  6. Capping at PCC’s new indoor facility on Thursday 2nd Dec, 6.00-7.30pm.

Please confirm your availability to participate in the trials and the tournament, if selected, to your club grade coordinator by 13th October also.

Kind Regards, Martin Webster, Chairman, EDCA, 021-933923
