EDCA District Tournaments
The Eastern District Cricket Association
(EDCA) is an association between 3 Auckland Cricket
Clubs – Auckland University Cricket Club, the Grafton
United Cricket Club, and the Parnell Cricket Club. It
also encompasses two secondary schools, Sacred Heart
College and St Peters College. For representative
honours, the Auckland Cricket Association divides the
greater Auckland area into regional associations, of
which EDCA is one. The other regions are North Harbour,
Western District, Central and Manakau. The aim of the
EDCA is to promote cricket in the region, and to have a
strong united voice to take to Auckland Cricket.
In October, EDCA calls for nominations
from the clubs for their elite cricketers to make up
teams in each of the following age groups:
-
Primary School Boys (Years 7 and 8) –
two & half teams
-
Colts – Yrs 9 & 10 Boys – two teams
-
Under 15 (as of 1 Sept) Girls - one
team
-
Under 18 (as of 1 Sept) Boys – two
teams
These nominated players will then go
through a series of trials, games and coaching before
final teams are announced to represent the District at
the annual district tournaments run by Auckland Cricket
(run prior to Xmas, between Xmas and New Year, and early
January). At the conclusion of these tournaments,
Auckland Cricket announces Auckland Representative teams
to play other cricket associations from around the
country.
As a lead in to these tournaments EDCA
has organised training academies currently being held
through Sept. & Oct to prepare the cricketers from
around the district. EDCA is inviting the Clubs to
nominate trialists for the District teams above and
encourages the Clubs to hold their own trials to select
their players for the District trials particularly as
the EDCA wants a wide and transparent process, and Clubs
have large player numbers.

EDCA Development Tournaments
In addition to the District
representative teams selected above, EDCA each season
sends development teams in January 2011 to:
-
Wanganui (Year 6, Year 7, Year 8 , U 14 and U15 )
-
Hawkes Bay (Year 6, Year7, Year8 and U14)
and
-
Hamilton (Under16) coached by Shoruban
Pasupati
The number of teams entered at the Wanganui and Hawkes
Bay tournaments are subject to the player demand from
the clubs and the team spaces in each tournament.
Parents must realise that these are not selected teams
and that these tournaments can be particularly gruelling
at times, with the Wanganui tournament, for example
being played on 4 consecutive days with a 35 over game
on the 1st day, followed by two days of 30
over games and a 35 over game on the final day. As
such, we encourage players who will have the ability and
passion to last through the demands.
EDCA particularly encourages players
not in the District Teams to partake in these
Development Tournaments as EDCA will consider the
player statistics and contributions when naming
representative squads for the coming season. EDCA
believes these tournaments are excellent experience for
boys to develop their skills, and the trips away are
tremendous fun for boys and parents alike.
