From the Junior Coaching Director, Nigel Fletcher:

After completion of the pre-season training programmes across most Junior grades the season is now well underway.  The weather has so far been kind to us, providing all teams with the opportunity to dust off the cobwebs and get the season going.

The courses that we have held for team and club coaches have been well attended, and we now have over 70 people at the club more qualified than they were three months ago.  I know from talking to the Junior team coaches who attended a course, that they now feel more in control of the planning of their training sessions and the season as a whole.  Well done, and thank you, to all those who have made the effort to up-skill themselves.  Your team members will benefit, and will enjoy the game even more.

Now the season is underway each team will be visited by one of the club’s coaches at a team practice from time to time as availability permits; the intention of these visits is not only to assist the team coach, but to offer something a bit different to the session, and to give the players and coach a different perspective on things.  I welcome all feedback you can give on these visits.

Whilst on that topic, please remember that there is a wealth of information and support available for your training sessions.  Mark Robson, Junior Club Captain, e-mailed to all team coaches links to the likes of Auckland Cricket’s website where session plans and practice games can be found.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you need guidance on where to find these, or how to implement them.

The weekly free coaching sessions on Mondays for the younger grades (Years 2-4) (to complement your own team practices) are being very well attended.  Please contact the Club’s Junior Coaching Coordinator, Simon Wood, if you have not yet discovered this session, and would like more information about it.

We also have sessions available with the Club’s Premier Team player, former West Indies Test cricketer Franklyn Rose.  Again, please contact Simon Wood for more information on what times are available.

Simon can be contacted at simon.g.wood@gmail.com or call him on 021-0261-5552.

Finally, please remember to support your Club’s sponsors, and team coaches – please wear your new smart Team Coach shirt to all practice and games!
