Welcome back to all AUCC Junior cricketers, parents and team coaches. I trust you are all raring to go for the second half of the season.
 
The Club's coaching team has been working hard to ensure that plans are in place to support all team coaches and also the Club's Junior Representative teams' coaches. Please contact Marc Ellison, the Club's Junior Coaching Coordinator if you require further, or specific,  assistance.
 
Marc is also available for private one on one coaching, manages the Club’s coaching team, supervises our Year 0 and 1 Friday sessions, the free Years 2-4 Monday coaching sessions, and ensures that our volunteer team coaches receive the assistance they require.

Specialist Coaching Clinics

Specialist clinics are being run for players Year 6 and up during February and March:

  - Specialist Pace Bowling Clinic run by Simon Andrews (six weeks commencing Monday 13 Feb)

  - Specialist Batting Clinic run by Marc Ellison (six weeks commencing Monday 8 Feb)

  - Specialist Spin Clinic run by Barrington Rowland (three weeks commencing Friday 10 Feb)

  - Specialist Wicketkeeping Clinic run by Richard Skelton (three weeks commencing Friday 17 Feb)

  - Specialist Captaincy Clinic run by Marc Ellison (two weeks commening Monday 20 Feb)

Nigel Fletcher – Junior Coaching Director

Coaching:

Nigel is a New Zealand Cricket Level 2 Coach, who is passionate not only about the game but also about what is needed at youth level for the game to flourish at the elite level.   He has been coaching teenagers since 1984, until recently was Head Cricket Coach at St Kentigern School, has coached at District level with the EDCA Primary School Boys 'A' team, the Auckland Cricket Primary School Boys and Under 15 Winter Academies, was an Assistant Coach in the Auckland Cricket Under 18 Academy last Winter, and recently Managed the two Auckland U21 T20 teams in the Dunar Cup.

He oversees the Club’s training of coaches, and age group grading and trial processes.  These days Nigel includes technical video analysis in his coaching services, and is available for group or individual sessions.

Playing History:

Nigel grew up in Yorkshire, England, and settled in New Zealand in late 2001.  His playing career includes U23 Representative Honours in Yorkshire and ‘A’ Grade Senior Cricket in Queensland, as well as Senior League cricket in Yorkshire and London.  These days he limits his playing to Presidents Grade appearances and training with the Senior players whenever possible.

 BARRINGTON ROWLAND - PREMIER TEAM COACH AND PLAYER

 

Coaching

Barrington is a Level 2 (English Cricket Board and New Zealand Cricket  Board) Coach and is passionate about using his International experience to help improve overall standard of cricketers in NewZealand. Currently the Player/ Coach for the AUCC Premier Men’s team  Barrington has settled in Auckland after playing 68 First Class games for Karnataka, India, having scored 4,100 runs.

Having played alongside and been mentored by State mates Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble has helped tremendously hone his skills and experience.

Barrington focuses on Biomechanics, player body structure and uses Video analysis as a tool to help the leaning process.  Kids with ambition and drive to work hard are coached through a strict regime of exercise and work out schedules. Barrington believes that learning can only happen if both the individual and coach meet halfway with hard work and commitment. If that happens success inevitably follows.

Represented Karnataka and South Zone in Ranji and Duleep trophy from 1999-2008

A highest individual score of 283 including 3 double centuries in State cricket.

Barrington scored a century in Brisbane, Australia against the New Zealand Development squad comprising Shane Bone, Jacob Oram , James Franklyn and Jettan Patel in 2006.

He coached Suburbs New Lynn Cricket Club Men’s Premier Team (Auckland Club Cricket) to victory in the prestigious Two Day Hadlee Howarth Trophy in 2008-2009, and recently coached one of the Auckland U21 T20 in the Dunar Cup.

 MARC ELLISON - JUNIOR COACHING COORDINATOR

Coaching:

Marc has just returned from another season in the UK, where he has been the overseas Pro at various Clubs over recent years. We welcome him to the Club for the 2011-12 season as Junior Coaching Coordinator and Men's Premier player.

He will be overseeing all our Junior coaching activities during the season - including assistance with team coaching and practices, rep team trials, organising specialist coaching clinics, coaching the coaches.

Marc is also available for private one on one or team coaching.

Playing History:

Having captained the Auckland Grammar 1st XI in 2004, Marc went on to captain the New Zealand team at the U19 World Cup in Sri Lanka in 2006.  

Since then he has been a member of the Wellington Firebirds and Otago Volts extended squads, and has held a number of professional cricket roles overseas, including the coordination of junior club activities.

Simon Wood

Coaching:

Simon has been coaching cricket since 2003.  Simon has obtained NZC Level One and Two Coaching certificates and has built up experience in group, team and individual coaching for players of all levels.  He is involved in coaching and selecting the EDCA teams.

His areas of speciality include batting and wicket keeping.  He was the Junior Coaching Coordinator for the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.

Playing History:

As a player Simon has played top side men’s cricket for University as a wicket keeper/batsman as well as first XI cricket for St Kentigern College.  He is a member of the Club's Premier Team Squad.

Daniel Marsic

 
Coaching:
 
Another of the young breed of coaches coming through the coaching pathway is Daniel Marsic. Daniel, a NZC Level 2 coach, who is a familiar face to the members of the A.U.C.C. Since coaching his first teams over five years ago Daniel has furthered his club coaching to E.D.C.A. coaching, where he has seen success with the U14 Girls, gaining 1st place in the 2008 district tournament. In addition to club and district coaching, Daniel is also employed by Auckland Cricket to help develop the game in schools, and help to-be coaches gain coaching qualifications.
 
Playing History:
 
Daniel has just ticked over 20 years of cricket, learning his trade over the Shore at Birkenhead Cricket Club then the move from the Shore to Parnell Cricket Club.  By then a North Harbour and Parnell Rep, college cricket took priority.  Daniel now plays senior cricket at AUCC as an All-Rounder.

 MAXI OFNER

 

Coaching:

 
Maxi has been coaching since 2008, and gained his Level One and Two coaching qualifications in 2009 and 2010 respectively. His areas of specialty are spin bowling and batting.
 
He is an active coach in the junior section of the club and has been employed by Auckland Cricket to help develop the game in schools, and help aspiring coaches gain coaching qualifications.

Holder of the junior record for best bowling figures in an innings at Auckland University Cricket Club, 2007-present
Maxi was a member of the Auckland University/Ellerslie Combined Premier squad, and is now in the Auckland University Cricket Club Premier squad
He was a member of the Glendowie 1st XI and Kings College 1st XI, Auckland U14 team, and EDCA from U12 right through to U17

RICHARD SKELTON

 

Coaching:

An active and enthusiastic member of the club, Richard has five years of experience coaching a variety of AUCC and high school teams.

Richard also offers one-on-one coaching services for members of the junior club, especially those looking to improve their wicket keeping and batting.

He has obtained his NZC Level One and Two Coaching Certificates.
