Senior Grades

Grade Convenor

Who

For all players over the age of 16 as at 1st September.

Where and when

The Club enters teams into all grades offered by the Auckland Cricket Association:

  • Premier Grade (selected from the combined University & Ellerslie Clubs following pre season trials*) 
  • Premier Reserve Grade (selected from the combined University & Ellerslie Clubs following pre season trials*) 
  • Senior A Grade (combination of two day and limited overs cricket)
  • Senior C Grade (combination of two day and limited overs cricket)
  • Senior One Day Grades (1st Grade - 7th Grade & Presidents Grade)
  • Women's Grades
  • Sunday Twenty20 Grades (games start at 3pm on Sunday afternoons; half-season entries available)

Teams play against clubs from within the Auckland region so some travel is required to game venues when playing away from home.

Twilight Cricket

This is a "social" grade played on Monday and Tuesday evenings starting at 6pm.

Teams are 8-a-side and games are 14 overs per side.  All games are on artificial wickets at our home ground, Colin Maiden Park.  All gear is provided by the Club.

Separate competitions run pre- and post Xmas.

Cancellations

Cancellations are only made by the ground authority or the Auckland Cricket Association (ACA).

Cancellations are notified on the ACA Info Line -  815-4869.

Season

The season normally starts mid October and finishes on the last Saturday in March. The season breaks over Christmas and resumes again mid January.  Season playing dates >>.

Coaching

The Club employs a dedicated coach for the Premier and Premier Reserve teams. These teams practice twice every week.

The Senior Grade teams (excluding Senior One-Day grades) practice as a combined squad once a week and as a team once a week. Team training sessions are facilitated by a dedicated coach.

Teams are selected and named every Wednesday.

The Club also conducts a Senior Squad Academy for interested players during the pre season (July-September).

Volunteer involvement

The Club relies on volunteer support from members and supporters.

Opportunities exist in the following areas:

  • Coaching (The Club will pay all NZC coaching course fees for any coach associated with the Club seeking coaching development opportunities (e.g. NZC Level 1-3 coaching courses).
  • Team management
  • Scoring or umpiring
  • Club administration.
  • Alternatively, members and supporters can also volunteer their time for sub-committee work (eg: social, prize giving, team photos etc). The time commitment for most sub committee work would not exceed 4-5 hours during the entire season. Refer Sub Committees >>.

Uniforms

Players must wear the Club uniform during Saturday competition which is available from our sponsor, Champs Sports in Panmure <<see Champs>>. The uniform consists of:

  • Blue cap or white brimmed hat with club logo
  • Club shirt <<see club shirt >>
  • White longs
  • White or cream sports socks
  • Sports shoes
  • White jumper – optional (the jumper also comes in club colours)

Behaviour

Players, coaches, parents and supporters are required to abide by the Club’s Code of Conduct in addition to "The Spirit of Cricket".  Behaviour must be consistent with the Club’s Values.  Refer to the Code of Conduct >> and Club Values >>.

Awards

Players are also eligible to receive other Club awards which are determined from the team statistics that are submitted to the Club after each game. Refer Club Awards >>.

Outstanding performances by individual players are also recognised by the Club. Refer Club Records >>.

Centurions Club

Tradition is very important at the University Cricket Club. The club recognises every player after they have played 100 games for the Club by presenting them with a special “presentation cap”. They are then officially inducted into the Centurions Club.

Club Manager

The Club employs a Manager who is responsible for the control, direction and instruction of anyone employed by the Club and the administration of the Club’s affairs in accordance with the direction given by the elected Board of Management. Refer Elected Office Bearers >>.

Complaints

Complaints on any matters with the way the club is administered or the conduct of any of its employees, volunteers or members should be referred in the first instance to the Senior Club Captain.  If circumstances should not allow this then the complaint should be made directly to the Club Manager.

Under no circumstances shall a member, volunteer or parent directly reprimand an employee of the Club.
